So, what to write about?

I know that I am a little late in doing this post today - it has been somewhat hectic week.  We have had to do some running around trying to get all the information together to take to our accountant for good ole tax preparation.  Seems like I "forgot" to change our address with some of our past employers, so we didn't get our 1099's.  However, after some running and sitting and waiting I THINK we have everything that he needs.   I NEVER look forward to this time of the year - but I guess it is a necessary evil.  Well, enough of that - let's move on to more interesting topics.

Which leads me to the title of the blog - what to write about.  You see, I keep a very watchful eye on the number of "hits" I get on my blog.  I am trying to build my readership - in fact, I don't think I have told anyone this except Mountain Man - but my goal for the month of March was to reach 50 followers - and I have reached my goal.  But, I'm not satisfied with that - now I want to have 100 followers.  I am very grateful to all of you that have decided to start following this blog - and I am also very grateful to those of you that have been with me since the beginning (you guys know who you are!).  However, I really would like to reach more people, so in the middle of February I started linking up to "link parties".  In the first week I doubled my followers - don't get too excited - I went from 12 to 24 - but I was excited!  Then I went from 24 to 30!  That's when I really started trying to link up more and build my blog.

What does this have to do with today's post?  Well, as I said, I keep close eye on what attracts people to read my blog.  I've been posting the renovation pictures of the house on Wednesday - and those are the posts that i have been linking.  This week I thought I would try something different.  Usually on Friday my post is about a project that I have completed - and last Friday I posted the name sign that Mountain Man and I did for Lorelai.  This was the post that I decided to use on my link up's this week.  BUST!!!  I have had about 1/3 the number of "hits" on my blog with this post than I have had with the renovation posts, which sorta surprises me.  Is it that the craft post was not something people were interested in?  Did I not put a catchy enough tag on the post?  Do you only want to see my renovation posts? Are the posts too long?   I'm just not sure - so what do I write about?

Now that I have gotten thru my little "oh me, oh my!" party let me tell you that I did have something else I was going to write about today - but I'll save that for next week.  So, if you would like to leave me a comment and let me know why you think I didn't get as many "hits" this week.  I would love to know your thoughts on this.

Thanks -  I'll "see" you on Monday with the Monday Menu - spoiler alert -
I have pictures to share of a meal I fixed last week!

Have a great weekend!

Hugs -

Carol

  1. I'll let you in on a fact that I can tell you first-hand to be true: Friday and weekend posts always get less hits. I don't really know why, but they do! Don't take it personally, that's just the way it goes. There is also a phenomena (at least, in the blogging world) that a couple of weeks before Christmas, your traffic will go down. I know, it's weird. So, don't take it personally... it's a day-of-the-week thing!

  2. I agree with Thrifty Crafty Girl. "Hits" and comments decrease over the weekend. It is easy to become discouraged by this, but I have just kept plugging along for over 5 years, through an unexpected move away from Blogger and now this latest upset, the Google Friend Connect issue, which is no longer available to those of us without Blogger blogs.
I definitely feel like I am starting over.
I continue to write about ideas that just pop into my head. If these posts fit a party I sign up for the party. The post I put on most recently has not been viewed much and has few comments. But, it was something that pleased me and if folks find the post and enjoy, that pleases me.
I took a break of a few days and have spent less time on the computer over the weekend. Today, Sunday, I am going to jump back in...maybe. I've enjoyed the break.
I am clicking to follow your blog, via Linky. I would love for you stop back by the Back Porch and click to Follow or sign up for email alerts. That option is at the top of my sidebar.
Thanks for stopping by Back Porch Musings.

    1. Pat - thanks for the feedback. Sometimes I think that I need a "mentor" to lead me on this journey of building my blog. I'm not sure if what I am doing is the right thing or not -and I'm not sure if I need to leave Blogger for Word Press or stay where I am. There are just so many questions that I have that sometimes I just get confused! Oh well, maybe someone out there will come to my rescue!
Thanks for following and I'll be sure to come over to your corner of blogworld!
      Thanks again Pat!

  3. Oh this post made me sad because I so know how you feel! I too have been trying to grow my blog and it seems the posts I think will be a hit just aren't sometimes. Sigh. But I actually popped in to thank you for posting Lorelai's cute sign. I adore it and so want to make one for my daughter's Teagan and Isla! And I am becoming a new follower too.

I think you are so right to link up..that's a great way to grow. I try to make a goal of reaching out to five blogs a day and that has really helped.

Plus, if you go to my blog click on the blog called Kelly's Korner. This is a huge blog and the author is just as sweet as can be. She has weekly Show Us Your Life parties. If you can link up with those. I have gotten 1K hits in one day from that! And I linked something up a year ago on her site and STILL get 100 hits a week from it.

I so hope this helps...and that you'll join my linky party again this week. It's going on now at Teagan's Travels.

Where does time go?

I have really fallen off the blogging wagon I guess.  I can't seem to get a schedule down so I don't post - but it's been almost...
