Restful Sunday

Today has seemed to just fly by, but it really doesn't seem like I got anything accomplished. Dan and I were up by 7:30 and had coffee out by the pool. Then we got ready and were at church for the 9:00 service - so we were back home by 10:15 to 10:30.

After changing clothes I started the laundry - had about five loads to do counting the linen on our bed and towels (including the towels out by the pool). That has been accomplished - washed, dried, folded/hung on hangers, and put away.

Justin. our son-in-law, stopped by for a few minutes just as we were eating lunch. We had decided to clean out the refrigerator - so we were just eating leftovers. I offered him some, but I really don't think he is much of a "left-over" type person, and he declined. Anyway, we talked for a little while and then he was off to Walgreens. We finished up eating and then I cleaned up the kitchen.

Dan spent some time in the pool and Mom came by on her way out of town - still having problems figur…

My "Mighty" Hunter

Living in Florida you have lizards - not big, huge, lizards. Little lizards - that drive the two daschunds CRAZY! This is Jessie (Jessica Lee if you want to be formal, but usually just plain ole' Jessie to us, unless she has done something she isn't suppose to do - but then that's another story). Anyway, back to the picture - this is Jessie - and she has a lizard staked out - she is being very patient waiting for that little lizard to come within striking distance and then she will pounce on that sucker and kill it. Now, don't worry, they (meaning Sam and Jessie) don't eat the lizards, they just kill them. They bite them a couple of times, throw them up in the air, nose them a few more times just to make sure they are dead, then they walk away and start looking for the next victim. The two of them will hunt lizards all day if we let them, except lately - it has just been too hot. Samantha - or Sam to us- is a black and tan daschund, but in 90 plus degree temperatu…

We have shower doors!

One of the last things that we have been waiting for in the house has been the shower doors. I think I have told you in previous posts that they were SUPPOSE to have been installed last Friday; however, the glass did not come in - so no shower doors. We thought that they might be installed on Wednesday of this week - but we didn't hear anything from the installer. So, we waited patiently. Well, maybe not patiently, but we waited.

This morning we got 'THE' phone call. The installers would be at the house sometime this morning between 9:30 and 10:00. Yahoo - I was going to get the shower doors! They were right on time and started in the guest bathroom first -----------------------------

Not the best of pictures, but I was getting a terrible glare on the glass. However, I think you can get an idea of the seamless glass enclosure and see the new tile work in the shower. Looks so much better than what was there!

Then they moved into the master bathroom. Now, we have not used this …

Ahh! The Fireplace

Well, "we" have started another project - I hope you noticed the quotation marks around the "we" because, as we all know, I don't do that much on the big projects around here. However, I do take some of the credit - as I am known to hold wood and help guide wood through the saw and give "expert" advice, even when it may not be asked for. But never mind about all that - the important thing is "we" have started another project here and that project is ---------- The Fireplace!

Not that it needed it - right!
This is the fireplace before the remodeling project began - ugly gray slate tile - no mantle - just not something you would want to curl up in front of and enjoy a nice cozy fire. (Yes, we do have times, even in Florida, when we want to curl up in front of a nice fire - have a cup of hot chocolate and watch some football on the television - or read a nice book - or watch some football.)

One of the things that Dan and I wanted to do as part o…

Bane of my life (at least lately!)

For some of you that know me, you know that I can stand a mess for only so long before it really starts to bug me. I mean, really, really, bug me. Well, this pile of dirt has really been buggy me lately. How did all this start you might ask. Well, actually quite innocently enough. Let me explain.

Way back in March, when we poured our new patio and put in the flower bed/retaining wall behind the pool, we needed dirt for the concrete work and for filling the flower bed. So, Dan ordered a dump truck load of dirt. Yes, you read correctly, a dump truck load - 17 yards!

I know that you really can't tell how much dirt this is from this picture- but let me tell you - that is A LOT OF DIRT!!! (And this picture was taken after they had used about 1/3 of it in the patio.) Now, it was a good thing to have while we were filling up the flower bed (although I wish we had treated it with Round-Up before we put it in the flower bed and planted flowers in it as now I'm having to pull up grass). …

Today's Project

Friday night I told you that Dan and I were going to work in the garage and that I would take pictures and post them yesterday - then yesterday I let you know that we worked in the garage, but that I forgot to take pictures. Well, today I went out and took some pictures of the work that we had done. I know that you are not going to believe that we did any work when you look at these pictures, but believe me- we worked for about six hours and got this far.

Before we worked you could not even walk around in here, much less see the floor. So, while there is still quite a bit of work left to do we made great progress. A lot of the stuff you see is trash that will go out on Tuesday on trash day. Other stuff is things for the garage sale and that we will be taking out later today (when it gets a little cooler so we can work).

I know it doesn't look like much - and believe me, it will look better in the future - it looks so much better than it did a couple of days ago! (Oh, in case you a…

One of our projects

I know that I told you last night that I would take pictures of the garage - before and after- well, I forgot. Dan and I started to work and the next thing I knew it was two hours later and I had not taken any pictures. I thought about taking some before I fixed lunch and then we got busy doing something and the next thing I knew it was after two and we had made great progress - so tomorrow I will show you pictures of the after - you just won't have any before pictures to compare it to.

One of the things that I was able to take pictures of is the next step we took in the laundry room. I had posted pictures of the laundry room with the new washer/dryer, but we were not finished with what we wanted to do in there. I wanted more storage - especially for some things that are just sorta bulky and don't fit well in the cabinets. So, Dan cut some boards down today - just to give us an idea of what it will look like when we get the right shelving and this is what we got ----

The pictur…

More changes

More things are changing around here - and the place is starting to look more like home. Pictures are starting to be hung on the walls and furniture is going in the right places. There have been some changes made also.

We changed some things around in the master bedroom - but that is something that we are still working on - I'll post pictures when I get it all done. The bathtub in the guest bathroom was finally refinished! (Can you say - FINALLY!) I have to say though that the guy did a good job and it does look nice - we just can't use it for 21 days! That's okay - we haven't used it in the year we have been in the house - I don't think 21 more days will be a hardship (but I think I will have to try it out after everything get settled!).

The shower doors were SUPPOSE to be installed today - but the glass was not delivered to the installer yesterday - so it wasn't installed today - they said it would be Wednesday or Friday of next week (they get their deliveries…

Week 8 of the project

Well, this is week eight of the remodeling project and I thought I would give you a visual reminder of where we were and were we are now. I think you might be a little surprised - I think there has been great improvement - you'll have to let me know what you think.

First let's start with the kitchen:

This is the before - ugly pink cabinets and a strange layout (okay - Dan put some of the cabinets in the middle of the floor so we could get an idea of what the island was going to be like - it isn't like that at all!)

We were also closed off from the rest of the house. There was also the issue of the wallpaper. Well, that's all changed now -----------------------------

This is the new kitchen - we aren't quite finished with it yet - we still have to do the back splash - but that is a project for us to complete - not part of the "scope of work" of the remodeling project. Dan is sure we can complete this project later (there are a couple of other things we want…

Week 7

Well, we have survived another week without electricity in the kitchen! In fact, we didn't have anyone here working until Friday - and then it was the plumber. However, the plumber did finish everything he had to do (we think - we are not sure if we ran the line for the ice maker on the refrigerator or not) - and he got the vanity in the master bathroom set. I even have water in the kitchen and have a kitchen sink now!

Speaking of the kitchen - I also have my granite counters installed. They were installed on Thursday afternoon (a little later than we thought it would be, but heh- they are installed)! Now, I have to seal them - we went to Lowes Friday night and bought the sealer - I just haven't had a chance to put it on the counter tops yet - that is on my list of things to do tomorrow.

We also got the washer and dryer installed Saturday afternoon. Justin came over and helped Dan put them up on the pedestals and get them hooked up. I am so excited - I actually got all our laund…

4th of July and Week 6 of the Remodeling Project

Okay, I know that it has been a couple of weeks since I have posted pictures of the house and the progress that has been made - so, hopefully, the pictures that I post today will make up for that. First, let me say that I thought that everything would be done by now - but I guess that I was being a little optimistic. Today starts week seven of the project - and while we don't have THAT much more to do - there is still enough that it makes living here in the house a little inconvenient - like no kitchen appliances whatsoever! (My children will never believe this, and they will probably hold this statement over my head for the rest of my life, but I can not wait to get the kitchen done so I can actually cook again!)

So, let's start with week six and look at some of the pictures -

Most of you may not think this is a big deal - but I am so excited about this door. This door leads from the guest bathroom out to the pool area and it used to be an absolutely ugly door. I have been want…
