Foyer/Great Room Reveal

The next entry in our whole house remodel is the living room/foyer.  Once again there is going to be an overload of pictures and some are not of the best quality, so I apologize in advance.

As we all know, Mountain Man and I bought a foreclosure about two years ago.  I don't have any pictures of this area of the house when it was in the real "before" state.

However, this is what the room looked like after Mountain Man decided to take the wall down in the now dining room and we moved some furniture back into the Living room.

You can see where Mountain Man closed up the extra door going into the guest bedroom in the picture above and below.

Why would anyone have TWO doors going into one room????

Looking from dining room into the living room.
Don't you just love the angles???

First week of the remodel project -

Wow, you can really see where the angles were!

Weird, huh?

About three weeks in and the foyer has changed - all the angles are gone.
In the picture above the kitchen in on the left and the new dining room is on the right side of the foyer.

Six weeks into the project.
This is looking into the living room from the foyer.

One of the things you will notice in our home is - we don't have a couch!  With the way our living room is situated there is no where to put a couch, and  since it's just Mountain Man and I here most of the time, we wanted to be comfortable.  So, we decided to get two recliners.  The other two chairs in the living room we call the Melissa chair and the Justin chair (for my dd and sil).

View from the Guest Bedroom doorway.

Once again, you can see the kitchen on the left.
The doorway on the far left of this picture is going into the Master Bedroom.
Mine and Mountain Man's recliners on the left and the Melissa chair.

I think you can tell from these pictures that our home is not huge, it's not even large - but it's big enough for me, Mountain Man, and the two pups!

View from the dining room.

See the Master bedroom in the background?

Here is the Justin chair.

I'll leave you with a picture of the small table in the living room by Justin's chair.
The picture is one that I took at Highland Hammock State Park, where we worked one winter.  We love this shot.

So, what do you think?

See you on Friday with a little craft project.

Hugs -

Carol

  1. What a difference you achieved with hard work, good taste and time! Maybe I'm to old (or young) for this angle thing, so much nicer with 90 degree walls!
Have a sweet rest of the week,

    1. Hi Sue - Well, if you are too old, or young - we are too! The angled walls just about drove us nuts and we could NOT wait to get rid of them! (BTW - I think I'll go with the young idea, instead of old - that's my story and I'm sticking to it! - HaHa!)

  5. gorgeous. what a transformation.

btw. feng shui tip: the energy shoots out of your house
to the pool. Fix: put a potted plant/showstopper right in front of the glass doors to keep the energy in. Where? Straight in front of you, when you are standing in that doorway as in picture 6, which has the caption 'after shot'.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion Rose - there is only one problem with that - most of the time those doors are wide open as they fold all the back into the wall. That is one of the things that Mountain Man liked about the house being able to open it all up - Guess I need to take a picture of the house all open so people can see.
      Have a great weekend-

  6. You must be thrilled - what a transformation. We also have the dual recliners at our place because it's just the two of us. Works great! Thanks for sharing at our party this week.

  14. WELL DONE! What a difference you've made to this house. You were brave to take on a foreclosure, but isn't it amazing what some hard work and vision will do? For many years my father has bought down-at-heel houses and transformed them into pretty homes; I know he'd get a kick out of seeing how you removed those angles and extraneous doorways and created a lovely, workable space. Good for you!!

Thanks so much for joining Grace at Home!

    1. Thanks you so much for the kind comments Richella! Mountain Man and I have always remodeled the homes that we have lived in - five houses in 12 years (and we spent two years in an RV when we were traveling full time)! We are calling this house the "forever house" - we will see IF that is true as Mountain Man gets an "itch" to move every couple of years! That was what was nice about being full time RVer's - when he got "hitch itch" we could just hook up and go somewhere else!
      Thanks for hosting!

  16. Looks like you've really been busy with remodeling. I've loved seeing all the changes made to your home. I agree that making your home comfortable and liveable for you is important. I feel much more comfortable in houses that look like a real home rather than a magazine perfect house. We used to have a neighbor many, many years ago that we so hung up on her living room lookng perfect that it was for show only. You stood at the door and admired the beauty, but you never dared walk in there. I can't imagine having a house like that.

Carol, I'm very sorry I am so late on answering. Real life has been hectic this week, so I've been late visiting many people. Yet I wanted to drop by to thank you for visiting my party again this week. Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Shannon - thanks for dropping by - I completely understand life getting in the way! Thanks for the kind, sweet comments. I can not imagine having a room in your house that you can't use, but my grandmother had one of "those" living rooms too - it was only for "company", but we were never allowed in it.
