The Nursery - Almost Done!

Today I thought I would share with you the progress that has been made on the nursery. I don't think I have shown you pictures of the nursery yet - so I'll start at the beginning.

Here are Mountain Man and Justin marking the wall where the new chair rail will go. (Oh, and there is Brady's rear end! LOL!)

Now, I have a confession to make - I am not a good picture taker for a blog.

Why, you might ask?

Well, I didn't taken any more pictures of the nursery until this past Sunday.

The nursery is almost finished - the parents-to-be still want to add some finishing touches - like pictures to the walls - but I think all the major stuff has been done. So, I'll share the pictures that I finally took.

You can see the little project that we were worked on Sunday hanging in the corner. The tissue pom-poms from the baby shower were finally hung.

Mountain Man had things ready for a long time (like a couple of weeks!) - we just couldn't find the time to go over to hang them.

The green and white "box" under the window is the toy box we found at IKEA the last time we went. We think it will work out well.

We still have to make the book slings that Melissa wants to hang on the wall beside the window.

I'll have a future post on these boxes.

Looking from the crib back to the door - see the cute little dirty clothes hamper - that was a shower gift.

I didn't take pictures of the closet - but let us just say that it is FULL of clothes. This little baby sure will be well dressed thanks to all the wonderful shower gifts they have received.

While there are still a few things that the proud parents-to-be want to do, IF Lorelai decided to come early they would be able to welcome her home with everything all ready.

I think the momma to be is ready!

Lorelai's Name Sign

Mountain Man and I have been working on some projects for the new grand baby. I thought that I would share one of them with you. It is a sign for over the baby's crib. Actually, it didn't start out to be a sign. Melissa wanted Lorelia's name in the baby's room - but to begin with we thought that we would use scrapbook paper and frame the letters of her name. However, after we looked at the price of frames at Michael's - even with them on sale and with a coupon - it would be a very expensive project.

So, we looked around and found wooden letters on sale. We talked about how we could use the letters and I said that I could use the scrap booking paper on the letters,seal them with Mod Podge and hang the letters on the wall. Melissa thought about it and decided that's what we should do.

Let the project begin:

Using spray adhesive we attached the paper to each of the letters making sure that all the air bubbles were out.

After attaching the paper to all the letters it was time to go back and trim everything out ----

Ta Daa!

Now we have all the letters covered and trimmed, it was time to seal them.

Mod Podge was used to seal all the letters.

Twenty coats later all the letter are sealed.

Then we let everything sit for a week or so - partly to make sure everything is dried and partly to air out - (boy that Mod Podge was potent)!

Now, Mountain Man started thinking - he was somewhat unsure of hanging each individual letter on the wall. See, each letter had a different place to hang the letter and to get them lined up and straight would be a major pain in the, well, let's just say it would be difficult (not impossible, but difficult).

So, Mountain Man talked to Melissa and Justin (the parents to be) and suggested that he mount the letters on a board painted the same color as the lower walls in the baby's room, trim it all out with white trim and hang the board over the crib. This way, everything would be level and could be moved easily if they wanted to move it in the future.

Well, after everyone agreed on this - Mountain Man started to work and "forgot" to let me know when he was working - so, no pictures of him painting the board. (However, I can explain the steps he took. First, he traced the letters on the board, then filled the profile of the letters in with painters tape so after he painted the board he would still have bare wood to glue the letters to the board. The next step was gluing the letters onto the board with wood glue.) Sorry, I don't have any pictures of these steps - but I was able to capture the next steps.

I was a little worried about just having the letters glued to the board - I was afraid that they might fall off and hit the baby - or she might even be able to pull them off after she was able to stand up in the crib. We decided that we also needed to staple the letters on the board so we would not have to worry about the glue giving way in the future.

Now, Mountain Man had some special "nails" he used with his staple gun and a special attachment that counter sunk the "nails" into the sign. Let me just say that they letters are NOT coming off this sign.

(Oh, BTW, the painted flower pots are for another project that I'm working on for the baby shower and the lampshade was one that we fixed for Melissa and Justin's guest room.)
